Recently a customer of ours, Rhino Tool House, installed a Gorbel four-post system with three runways and two aluminum bridges that covered multiple workspaces. Each workspace was fitted with a powered tilt, vacuum manipulator from Cynergy Ergonomics. We also fabricated a turntable with an AGI covered form that allows the product to be stood vertically and then spun around to the other side of the table for access by the other operator(s).

Our manipulators and turntable were the perfect answer to their install solution, needed to improve worker safety and productivity in the workplace.

When working with manipulator applications, the capacity and reach can sometimes exceed the capabilities of work station crane systems. In these instances, patented track is the ideal product for high-capacity manipulator design.

The video below shows a 2,500-lb capacity manipulator system handling diesel engines from the production conveyor to the shipping dunnage. We worked closely with our dealer/partner who supplied the runway system and provided the end user with the ideal turn-key installation.

Other manipulator manufacturers limit the maximum capacity they will work with – some as low as 300 pounds. Cynergy Egronomics will design manipulators to meet any capacity/reach requirement needed.

Distribution of industrial servers requires careful handling when receiving, sorting and installation into the storage racks.

Servo-drive lifters were an ideal solution for handling the servers from the receiving box and setting onto the in-feed conveyor. The tooling was designed in conjunction with custom conveyor inserts using reliefs for the gripper pads; the lifter speed and precision allows operators to keep up with the line rate while handling the servers without any damage.

When building the storage racks, these lifters are integrated into rigid mast manipulators allowing the operators to load the racks from floor elevation to the top shelf. The force sensing handle allows the operators to easily reach the top and bottom elevations.

A diesel engine manufacturer needed to handle 300-lb exhaust components during the assembly and production phases. They had experience with conventional pneumatic manipulators and wanted to address several shortcomings inherent in standard manipulator design. The G-Force integrated into our nested trolley/rigid mast manipulator addressed their requirements and offered more features than they expected using the G-Force anti-drop protection, virtual limits and, because it is an electric system, we were able to provide laser target projectors to assist operators in aligning the gripper to the part.

Tire manufacturers are required to move green and cured tires between carts, conveyors and presses during the manufacturing process. The moves are mostly done by hand and present safety and productivity challenges. Cynergy developed ID and OD tooling designs to move tires in all of these processes and coupled with the Gorbel G-Force servo-drive lifter, provides very fast, very safe handling of tires throughout the manufacturing process.

One of our most recent, and interesting, custom lifting device projects was in response to a unique and unusual request from a customer.

The customer, a DOD (Department of Defense) contractor, held a maintenance contract on several F-35 fighter jets. During maintenance checks, they need to periodically pull the vertical tail control surfaces toward each other with a force of 1,250 lbs and measure the deflection to check for structural integrity over the lifespan of the aircraft. Faced with this unique challenge, Cynergy Ergonomics’ engineers went to work to come up with the right solution.

The customer had very specific requirements regarding size, shape and placement of the internal cleats where it contacts the aircraft surface. The equipment also needed to be very light so a single technician could locate and activate it. Keeping safety and efficiency in mind, we designed a custom vacuum cup lifting solution that allowed our customer to accomplish the task at hand.

The pictures you see below include product shots of the final custom-built system, a 2,200 lb load test that was conducted and the contact points located on the F-35.

Cynergy Ergonomics was recently named an award nominee by Goodyear Tires for their 2019 Best Ergonomic Improvement award. The nomination was given to Cynergy based on an ergonomic material handling solution that was designed, developed and installed by the Cynergy team.

Cynergy was first approached about the existing process which included a weighing conveyor where work away was being handled manually. This setup was placing workers in an environment with multiple ergonomic hazards such as bending, pulling, loosening, lifting, carrying and lowering. Before the installation and implementation of Cynergy’s design, the Brief and Best Survey Risk Score was high due to manual handling of rubber hump.

Cynergy engineers brainstormed with members of the Goodyear team to eliminate the ergonomic hazards in place and came up with an innovative solution that would give operating personnel safe handling control during the process. A hump rubber lifter was installed to handle the work away which eliminated the need for operating personnel to bend, pull, loosen, lift, carry and lower materials like before.

After the installation and implementation of Cynergy’s ergonomic solution, the revised Brief and Best Survey Risk Score was substantially lowered: due to the addition of the rubber hump lifter, the score was reduced by 76%!

Yet another innovative and ergonomic solution from Cynergy Ergonomics that we can be proud of. Thanks to Goodyear Tires for allowing us to work on this project and a big thanks for the acknowledgement of all our hard work.

Many of our clients here at Cynergy Ergonomics run into the same application need. How can they move heavy parts in and out of containers in a safe, ergonomic and effective manner? At Cynergy Ergonomics our goal is to design the most efficient system for your business to improve work safety and productivity.

In the videos below, you’ll see one of our latest container loading systems. In this custom-designed system, we use a Gorbel G-Force Intelligent Assist Device with extended shaft force sensing handle to allow the operators to move two 60-pound railcar bearing cups simultaneously in and out of shipping containers and heat treat tubs. The system allows operators to do all this without having to bend over and reach down to get at the lower layers.

Gorbel G-Force uses patented technology and an industrial processor controlled drive system to deliver unmatched lifting precision and speed. System operators can lift and maneuver naturally, as if the device were an extension of their own arm.

One of our latest custom ergonomic industrial manipulator solutions was built in response to a request that came in from a customer that manufactures the wheel assemblies on heavy earth moving and agricultural machinery. The challenge: Design a lifting system to help lift and handle these heavy and bulky assemblies during the manufacturing process.

With complete safety and efficiency in mind, our engineers came up with the perfect ergonomic industrial manipulator solution to meet the need.

  • To assist the operators in the shipping area, a system was designed to pick up the wheel assemblies by the boar and stack them on a pallet up to 84 inches high.
  • The tooling probes the center of the wheel and grips the hub with non-marring gripper pads. (This tool has interchangeable arms for three-inch and six-inch diameter hubs.)
  • An extended counter balanced handle allows the operator to pick from ground elevation and stack the wheel assemblies to the required elevation on the pallet.
  • This particular system was designed to handle 500 lb wheel assemblies. Similar systems can be designed to handle much heavier weight if needed.
